Neoclassical explorers Rob Funkhouser and Eric Salazar team up to merge Funkhouser’s diabolical hand-built instruments with Salazar’s whimsy clarinetting. Renewal stretches the ear with melodic, yet experimental sounds to depict feelings of rejuvenation.

The album recorded during a live performance in the original exhibition, Study in Place, which featured a set of interactive sound sculptures and instruments that celebrate the everyday sounds and objects around us. Funkhouser was joined by Salazar for the live performance exploring the idea of place, with loose themes of friction, water, and relationships to musical information.

Rob Funkhouser is a composer, performer, and instrument builder who can never quite sit still. His work is concerned with ideas of place, memory, and pattern and he is interested in interrogating the interstitial spaces between established genres.

Eric Salazar’s purpose for writing music is to create art that challenges standards, unites audiences of uncommon backgrounds, and connects souls through creative understanding. Salazar pioneers the New Classical genre; he takes his classical training and fuses together modern electronics with acoustic instruments, blending ancient styles with present musical trends.
