A Look at My Next Recording Project
A Look at My Next Recording Project
I woke up the other day and thought to myself, “How cool would it be to have an album out on iTunes and Spotify?”
I have been researching for weeks to figure out the best way to publish recordings of my music. I have been using SoundCloud, but this only reaches a very specific audience. I have found several Digital Distributor websites. Basically, these websites have a partnership with big digital companies like iTunes. Through this partnership they are able to publish artists’ albums. This allows an artist to reach millions of audience members! The only catch is whatever website you use will take a commission for part of every sale.
I have put much thought into which path to take. Composers are expected to self-publish if they want to make a living. I remember talking with my friends about this. They have said that if you actually want your music performed at all, you must self-publish. Then I got to thinking, why don’t performers self-publish? What is stopping more performers from self-publishing their own albums? I have recording equipment and I have repertoire ready to be recorded. I also have the skills to mix the recordings on my own. I have thus decided that I am going to go all out and get an album published online.
The album (title TBA) will be recorded over the next couple of months. The music will feature a spicy recipe of some of my favorite clarinet solos, a touch of improvisation, and my own compositions.
I am happy to announce that I will need zero financial support for this endeavor! I will, however, ask you to lend me positive emotional support if you are able. Recording sessions are very stressful and I want my first album to say something special. Any happy thoughts you can send my way will be greatly appreciated.
Keep in touch for more updates about this album! Eric Salazar is coming to iTunes and Spotify, get ready!
